Schooner D. Freeman Ashore West of Oswego

The schooner D. Freeman is shown after running ashore at Ford Shoal west of Oswego following a fierce storm on August 13, 1888.    It left Belleville about noon light to load coal at Fair Haven.The crew got ashore safely. It was subsequently released and taken to the Goble drydock in Oswego  for repairs. This vessel was built in 1869 by David M. Foster at Port Burwell, Ontario, Canada. It was 108 ‘ long, 21.6’ beam, 8.4’ depth, 194 tons. Out of service by 1902.
